2024, ze was nog maar een paar weken in België, en Nicola zag twee mensen een van Antwerpens historische pleinen oversteken met op hun rug de wat vreemd gevormde instrument-kisten die ze onmiddelijk herkende als mandolines. Geïnspireerd, en omdat ze graag terug contact wilde met het mandolinewereldje na een pauze van meerdere jaren, liep ze de twee achterna – het bleken Ralf en Amund te zijn. De geboren Britse leerde mandoline spelen in de the San Francisco Bay Area, eerst van Italiaanse en Duitse immigranten, daarna van solisten die op bezoek kwamen. Later starte ze zelf een mandoline school en in 2005 begon ze het San Fransisco mandolin orchestra waarvan ze (co-)leider was tot 2013. In Italië speelde ze ook in het Orchestra a Plettro Città di Milano.

2024, after having been only a few weeks in Belgium, Nicola happened to see two people crossing one of Antwerp’s historic squares with odd-shaped cases on their backs which she recognised immediately as bowl-back mandolin cases. Inspired, and wanting to reconnect with the mandolin world after a gap of several years, she ran after the two people – who turned out to be Ralf and Amund. Originally British, she developed her mandolin playing in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, learning first from Italian and German immigrants and then from visiting soloists. Later, she developed her own mandolin school, and in 2005 founded the San Francisco mandolin orchestra, which she directed then co-directed until 2013. She has also played in Italy with the Orchestra a Plettro Città di Milano.
